A history of refuge
The motel was built in 1947, the same year the dark-sky community of Borrego Springs began taking shape. We were one of the early properties to welcome travelers, birders, hikers, photographers and the occasional astronomer.
About
Escape the hectic pace of the city in this desert hideaway that's a mix of vintage vibes and modern perks. With only eight rooms, you'll get the personal touch from Robin, the innkeeper, and still be only steps from great food and entertainment. Perfect for hikers, stargazers and travelers looking to truly experience the Anza-Borrego wilderness, you'll return from your day of hiking, wildflower wandering and art appreciation to outdoor seating, barbeques, a firepit and a saltwater pool.

The motel was built in 1947, the same year the dark-sky community of Borrego Springs began taking shape. We were one of the early properties to welcome travelers, birders, hikers, photographers and the occasional astronomer.
Quiet, low-impact, and built for the climate we're in. The roofs are panels; the courtyard light is restrained on purpose; the garden is xeric. Our footprint is meant to disappear under the stars.
Charlie owns the place, while Robin manages the property and lives onsite. When you call or email, you're reaching her directly, and she'll happily be your guide to all things Borrego.
